Bill Smith

BILL SMITH is the Digital Operations Manager for KOMU 8, bringing his 20-plus years in the local media to the station’s efforts across multiple platforms. Bill works across the station departments to integrate new digital tools for newsgathering & storytelling as well as audience engagement & measurement and client marketing tools.

He started his career at KOMU 8 in Columbia as promotions manager then interactive manager, building the station’s first database-driven website and mobile sites. He then went on to lead digital teams at KSHB in Kansas City, KPTV in Portland, Oregon, and KARK 4 News and FOX 16 News in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has also worked as Social Media manager at KCTV in Kansas City.

A native of north central Missouri, Bill is a proud Mizzou alum, receiving a BS in Agricultural Education before doing graduate work in Strategic Communications at the Missouri School of Journalism. He currently is on the Board of Governors for the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and previously served on the board of the Mid-Missouri Ad Federation and the Kansas City Press Club.
