Joseph Avanzado is a Senior Academic Advisor at the School of Journalism graduate programs. He works with students in the on-campus master’s and BJ/MA Accelerated Program. His assignment also includes the Journalism-Law Program and Journalism/Master of Public Health Dual Degrees. 

Joseph has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. He completed his Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Resource Development specializing in Student Affairs Administration in May 2020 at South Dakota State University (SDSU). He served as an Academic Advisor for undergraduate students in the College of Education and Human Sciences at SDSU for almost three years, before starting his role at the University of Missouri in June 2023. 

He has more than 15 years of combined professional experience in student affairs, both in K-12 and higher education settings. It has been his passion to work with students and a lifelong goal to advocate and provide appropriate support services for students from various backgrounds.

When not at work, he loves to spend time with his wife and his two young children. He also loves to cook, watch movies, and play video games for leisure.
