Karen Steger works in the dean’s office, providing support and management of numerous critical areas, including serving as the School’s graduate outcomes administrator, internship coordinator, and head of Journalism Career Services. Additionally, she is responsible for sharing announcements with undergraduate students in Canvas, assists in employer recruitment efforts, and works closely with student organizations to receive funding for events/travel and in outreach efforts. Karen also plans/coordinates the School’s fall Welcome Day involvement fair and oversees the administration of accreditation data/reporting. She is a member of the Career Services Council and an adjunct instructor for J1050: Public Relations & Image Management for Non-Majors.
Prior to joining the journalism school in February 2022 as a Program/Project Support Coordinator and assistant to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Karen worked at a variety of roles at the University, including student services at Mizzou Online and in undergraduate research for the NIH-funded IMSD EXPRESS (now MARC) program.
Karen, a graduate of MU’s College of Education and St. Louis native, started her career as an elementary school teacher and state champion high school swim coach in the Charlotte, North Carolina area before eventually returning home to her black & gold roots.
In her free time, you can find Karen designing greeting cards & stickers, shopping for new Jordans, writing/podcasting about Mizzou for Rock M Nation, and cheering on the Tigers with entirely too much enthusiasm. Have a question about Mizzou Athletics? Karen’s got you covered.
