Leah Becerra is the Digital on Demand Services product director for the Reynolds Journalism Institute. The DODS initiative is designed to support local newsrooms with accessible content, training and development resources to foster sustainable digital growth.
She comes to RJI with over a decade of experience working in local newsrooms across the Midwest and East Coast. Becerra’s journalism background encompasses all things digital: web design, podcasts, video, analytics, audience engagement and more. Most recently, she was the senior digital editor at The Boston Globe. There, she led the 24/7 digital news team that manages the newspaper’s news products, including BostonGlobe.com, the Globe app, breaking news emails and more. Before that, she worked at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard, The Kansas City Star, Newsy, the Omaha World-Herald and the Springfield News-Leader. In 2018, she and a team of journalists at The Star were recognized as Pulitzer Prize finalists in public service.
In 2024, Becerra was selected for the News Product Association’s inaugural News Product Management Certification cohort. Completing the certificate program added product management to her audience and digital journalism expertise. She earned a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2012.
