Mae Bruce is a news editor at the Columbia Missourian. Originally from Austin, Texas, she joined MU in 2025 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2023 and her master’s degree in journalism in 2024, both from the university’s prestigious School of Journalism.

As a night news editor, Mae works with the faculty editors to help with the night production of the daily newspaper, which includes assigning stories to pages, editing stories for AP Style and grammar, proofing pages and finalizing the newspaper for the next day.

Mae’s research focused on the audience perception of the value of locally owned news in a rural Midwest town. During her time as a reporter, Mae wrote an award-winning story about wealth inequality, and served as an assistant city editor and in various TA roles. She also worked as the digital managing editor for Vox Magazine.

In her free time, Mae enjoys reading as many books as she can, spending time with her cats and walking.
