Marvis Herring is an award-winning television journalist and anchor with more than a decade of on-air experience at top-rated stations across the country. Having grown up in the Midwest, Marvis developed a deep connection to the communities and stories that define the region. He built his career at Nexstar and Hearst Television anchoring and reporting in markets from Grand Rapids and Peoria to Louisville and Savannah.

During his time at stations like WLKY in Louisville and WJCL in Savannah, Marvis covered historic national moments, led teams to top market ratings, and earned a regional Emmy nomination for his work at WOOD TV8 in Grand Rapids. He has reported from disaster zones, broken major stories, and built a reputation for earning audience trust in every market he’s called home.

Most recently, he has channeled that experience into mentoring the next generation of journalists as an instructor at the University of Mississippi’s School of Journalism and New Media. He also became a trusted Ole Miss media relations team member, translating complex research and campus stories into compelling narratives that he successfully pitched to national and global news outlets

Marvis is eager to bring his infectious energy and work ethic to KOMU 8 News Today and Mizzou — telling stories that pierce through the noise and helping shape a newsroom in Columbia he believes in.
