The Missouri School of Journalism celebrates 113 years of the Missouri Method with its third annual Founder’s Day tradition of giving
From now through September 30, J-School alumni are encouraged to commemorate their Missouri Method experience and support future generations of students with a gift of $19.08 to the School in honor of its founding year.
Columbia, Mo. (Sept. 10, 2021) — On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, the Missouri School of Journalism will celebrate 113 years of the Missouri Method. As part of its third annual Founder’s Day tradition of giving, the School invites all alumni to show appreciation for their student experience and support future generations of students with a gift of $19.08 in honor of the School’s founding year.
“The Missouri School of Journalism has provided a world-class education for aspiring journalists and strategic communicators since we opened our doors on Sept. 14, 1908,” said Dean David Kurpius. “Our Founder’s Day tradition of giving is a meaningful way for our diverse alumni base to come together to support our mission and cement our legacy of excellence.”
All Founder’s Day gifts will be directed to the Missouri Method Endowment, which will provide essential resources for the School’s community newsrooms and agencies. Most recently, the endowment has helped the School reimagine the Missouri Method. At the beginning of the 2021 Fall Semester, most of the School’s professional newsrooms were co-located to the third floor of Lee Hills Hall. Last year’s Founder’s Day gifts were among the philanthropic contributions that funded part of the renovation. Having the combined newsroom will foster collaboration and fuel the School’s ability to conduct innovative experiments.
“This will not only lead to improvements in the way we train our students and serve our communities, we’ll also gain valuable insights that we’ll share with the industry in a meaningful way,” said Kurpius. “This is an essential step forward for the J-School, because no matter where we come from or where we go, we are better together.”
