OVERVIEW | IN-PERSON ADVISING | VIRTUAL ADVISING | SCHEDULES | REGISTRATION | FAQs

Incoming J-School students registered for a virtual Mizzou Summer Welcome Session will be automatically scheduled for a virtual J-Advising session on select dates. During this hands-on session, students will review degree requirements, incoming credit, course options and enroll in coursework.

  • Our advising sessions are typically held on Zoom at 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. and last 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Each session begins with a small group advising workshop and is followed by one-on-one breakout meetings with an advisor to help you finalize your enrollment.
  • Virtual advising sessions are limited and will occur at a later date in July. Course options and Peer Coach availability may be limited.

The Value of In-Person Orientation

Already planning to attend a Mizzou Summer Welcome in-person? You’ll be automatically scheduled for an in-person J-Advising session the following morning.

  • In-person advising orientation sets you up for success with face-to-face interaction that ensures a clear and immediate understanding of your academic requirements.
  • Get personalized advice that’s tailored to your unique goals, challenges, and aspirations, helping you make the best choices for your academic journey.
  • On-campus experience strengthens your connection to the advising team while giving you a better sense of the resources and layout at the Missouri School of Journalism.

If you’re unable to attend the in-person session the next day, you can request a virtual session on a later date by emailing JournalismStudentServices@missouri.edu.
