Mark Johnson, BJ ’79, recently published a memoir and writer’s mosaic titled “From Fertile Ground.” The book, available on Amazon, weaves together his grandfather’s diary entries from his North Carolina farm and his mother’s letters from her home in St. Louis with his own post-retirement narrative.

Caitlin Thompson, a BJ ’03, magazine journalism major, recently launched a quarterly literary publication called Racquet. The magazine celebrates everything from tennis’ buccaneering past to its modern global culture with an emphasis on illustration, photography and design. While studying at Mizzou, Thompson was a four-year letter-winner on the women’s tennis team.

Seoyeon Hong, PhD ’14

Seoyeon Hong, PhD ’14, is the recipient of the Wilma and Roswell Messing Jr. Faculty Award at Webster University. Hong is an assistant professor of communications and journalism at the school’s St. Louis campus and will receive $5,000.

Liz Manring, BJ ’08, has been promoted to managing editor of the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review in Arizona. She rejoined the Herald/Review in August 2015 after four years as the public information officer at Cochise College. Manring was previously the news and features editor at the newspaper.
