Yvette Walker, MA ’10
Yvette Walker, MA ’10, a longtime senior newsroom manager, was named assistant dean of Student Affairs at the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication last semester. Walker will begin teaching at Gaylord in the fall; she will also plan and coordinate the Hearst Speaker Series at Gaylord.

John O. Pierron, BJ ’57, died on Feb. 29th, 2016, in Philadelphia. He was a former news reporter for KYW Channel 3 and owner operator of GSS Tours Travel Agency.
Caitlin Thompson, BJ ’03
Caitlin Thompson, a BJ ’03, magazine journalism major, recently launched a quarterly literary publication called Racquet. The magazine celebrates everything from tennis’ buccaneering past to its modern global culture with an emphasis on illustration, photography and design. While studying at Mizzou, Thompson was a four-year letter-winner on the women’s tennis team.

Edward L. Steele, BJ ’50, died May 14, 2016, in Corvallis, Oregon. He started his career as a member of the southwestern territorial advertising staff at Sears Roebuck and Company in Dallas and a year later, was named advertising manager for the Sears retail store in San Angelo, Texas. Seoyeon Hong, PhD ’14
Seoyeon Hong, PhD ’14, is the recipient of the Wilma and Roswell Messing Jr. Faculty Award at Webster University. Hong is an assistant professor of communications and journalism at the school’s St. Louis campus and will receive $5,000.
Elizabeth Manring, BJ ’08
Liz Manring, BJ ’08, has been promoted to managing editor of the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review in Arizona. She rejoined the Herald/Review in August 2015 after four years as the public information officer at Cochise College. Manring was previously the news and features editor at the newspaper.

Allan Paro, BJ ’54, died July 29, 2015, in Woodbridge, Virginia. From February 1954 to July 1956, Paro served in the United States Army. James Bruce Campbell, MA ’67, president of Campbell Publications, died April 18, 2016. He was a lifelong newspaperman and had built the company from one newspaper to six at the time of his death. David Firestone, BJ ’77, spent 21 years as a reporter and editor at The New York Times. Firestone is now managing editor of FiveThirtyEight.com, the data-journalism site of ESPN.
