Two ceremonies will take place to keep graduates and guests safe.

Columbia, Mo. (March 16, 2021) — The Missouri School of Journalism will recognize its May and August 2021 graduates in two ceremonies on Sunday, May 16. Both ceremonies will take place at Mizzou Arena.

  • Students whose last name begins with A – L will have an opportunity to walk in-person in a ceremony from 8 – 9:15 a.m.
  • Students whose last name begins with M – Z will have an opportunity to walk in-person in a ceremony from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Doors will open an hour ahead of each ceremony. Graduates should plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes ahead of the ceremony start time to check in and get seated.

The commencement ceremonies were planned by a campus committee based on input provided by students, including the top three priorities students indicated were most important:

  • Hear the individuals name called;
  • Walk across the front of the class;
  • Have family and friends present.

Additionally, for those that cannot attend in person, a link to a live stream of the ceremony will be available on the MU Graduation and Commencement Live Streaming page.

To keep graduates and their guests safe, all ceremonies will be socially distanced, masks will be required at all times, and each event will not exceed one hour and 15 minutes to allow time for disinfecting between ceremonies.

Tickets

Each participating graduate is eligible to receive a block of six tickets for their ceremony, for friends and family. There is no cost for the tickets. Tickets may be picked up from The Mizzou Store, which will open an hour earlier than the earliest ceremony on Saturday and Sunday for ticket pick up.

To be eligible to receive the block of six tickets for your ceremony, students need to  indicate on their myZou Graduation Application that they plan to attend their commencement ceremony. Reservation deadlines and pick up are as follows:

  • Deadline to update your RSVP in the myZou Graduation Application is May 3.
  • Ticket pickup is May 10–16.

Accessibility

A limited number of accessible seats are available. If a student’s guest(s) require accessible seating, please call or email journalism@missouri.edu to specify which type of seats should be reserved: Wheelchair accessible or limited mobility/limited stairs.

Note that due to social distancing requirements, accessible seating may be reduced from full capacity. Those who request accessible tickets fraudulently (without a party-member with an accessibility need) may be relocated or removed from the event.
