Fall 2016 @Mizzou: Magazine Program Gives Students Creative Freedom
By Elizabeth Johnson
Columbia, Mo. (Dec. 7, 2016) — John Bat, a senior magazine journalism student, reviews a story that will appear in the weekly edition of Vox Magazine.
Bat is responsible for editing and producing stories written by students in intermediate and advanced writing classes. He works with other Vox student editors Monday and Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings before the publication hits the stands on Thursdays. Bat also edits stories that are posted daily on the Vox website. This semester’s work complements his coursework from last year when he had opportunity to write stories and take them through the creative process, starting with the idea, pitching it to his instructor and going through several rounds of edits. Through his time at Vox, Bat says he feels like he is getting a realistic perspective of the full editorial process. Photo by Elizabeth Johnson.
