Missouri School of Journalism Guided Future Wall Street Journal Reporter

By Janie Booth

In December, it will have been three years since Allison Prang walked across the stage and received her diploma from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She will be marking the occasion in her new home of Brooklyn, New York, as Prang is now working as a breaking news reporter for the Wall Street Journal.

At the Missouri School of Journalism, real-world media experience is part of the curriculum. The “Missouri Method” helps students like Prang through a combination of a strong liberal arts education and unique, hands-on training in professional media. Prang credits the Missouri Method for her success.

“Having the chance to work at Investigative Reporters and Editors for a number of semesters during my time as a student provided me with many professional opportunities to network within the journalism industry,” Prang said. “Those contacts and opportunities have been very beneficial.”

Through the school’s Washington, D.C., internship program, Prang worked at the Wall Street Journal for a semester, opening the door for her current position.

Her favorite memory at Mizzou? “There are so many to choose from…my rushing the field after we beat Oklahoma in football is definitely up there,” Prang said.
