Steve Weinberg Receives UM Curators’ Award for Scholarly Excellence
Columbia, Mo. (June 14, 2010) — Missouri School of Journalism Professor Steve Weinberg was one of five faculty members honored for excellence at a recent University of Missouri System awards ceremony hosted by the UM Board of Curators and President Gary Forsee and his wife, Sherry.
Weinberg received the Curators’ Award for Scholarly Excellence, an annual award given to the author of the most outstanding book by a faculty member from any one of the four campuses and published by the University of Missouri Press.
Weinberg’s book, “A Journalism of Humanity, A Candid History of the World’s First Journalism School,” provides an in-depth view of the history of the Missouri School of Journalism from its founding through current times. Written on the eve of the journalism school’s centennial celebration, Weinberg drew on internal documents and correspondence that uncovers the politics of the school, its struggles over resources and its battle to balance ambition with its professional mission.
Weinberg earned his bachelor’s degree from the School in 1970; his master’s, in 1975.
The Curators’ Award for Scholarly Excellence carries a $2,500 prize.
