Larry Powell Joins Missouri School of Journalism Faculty
Columbia, Mo. (Feb. 18, 2004) — Larry Powell has joined the faculty of the Missouri School of Journalism as an Assistant Professor, Professional Practice. He will teach introductory and advanced visual communication courses. Previously Powell was the president of his own advertising and marketing firm called Larry Powell & Associates, which he founded in Dallas in 1993.
A native Texan, Powell received his bachelor’s degree in fine arts in advertising and graphic design communication from the University of Texas and his degree in advanced advertising design from Southern Methodist University.
The Missouri School of Journalism is very lucky to have Powell as a member of the faculty. “We’re delighted to welcome Larry Powell to our faculty,” said Margaret Duffy, Advertising Chair. “His outstanding skills and professional experience make him an extremely valuable addition to the Missouri School of Journalism.”
Powell’s work has earned him numerous awards including the Dallas Advertising League TOPS Award, the MATRIX Award, and the Leadership Dallas Award. He also spearheaded the promotion of the 2000 National Conference of Black Mayors, helping the Dallas chapter raise more than $500,000.
Powell has served on the board of directors of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications, the board of trustees of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas, and was an active member of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce.
