Students Visit Agencies, Corporations in New York

Columbia, Mo. (March 16, 2004) — Missouri strategic communication students viewed agency reels, talked with experts and learned how to present themselves to prospective employers during a recent trip to nine advertising and public relations agencies and other companies in New York. Agencies and companies participating were:

The students also attended an alumni reception held at Bloomberg, providing the opportunity to network with more than 100 alumni.

“This trip is a terrific opportunity for students to learn more about the various facets of strategic communication from the experts who practice it every day,” said Suzette Heiman, director of planning and communications and trip organizer.

One of the participants, Megan Moriarty, a senior advertising student, hopes to work for a New York agency in account management when she graduates. “I was able to get a better feel for the ad industry in New York specifically, and I was able to speak with professionals regarding what they are looking for in prospective employees,” Moriarty said.

For some students, the trip provided the opportunity to learn more about opportunities available in the field. Jon Copeland, a senior advertising student, said, “I was interested in experiencing and learning about New York City since it has such a solid reputation for strategic communications.”

The school arranges the New York trip on an annual basis. Different site visits are scheduled each year to allow students to participate on an annual basis throughout their college studies.
