New Advertising Department Chair Named
Columbia, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2003) — Margaret Duffy, PhD, has been named chair of the advertising department. She succeeds Steve Kopcha who has returned to full-time teaching.
As chair, Duffy will oversee administrative activities of the department and serve as the liaison between other faculty, students, and the dean. Her colleagues nominated her for the position.
Before joining the Missouri School of Journalism in 2001, Duffy served as an associate professor at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. She earned her doctorate degree in mass communication with an emphasis in organizational behavior from the University of Iowa. Professionally Duffy worked in executive training, marketing, advertising and public relations for GTE Corporation, now Verizon Corporation.
“The ad department is well positioned to move forward, thanks to the hard work of my predecessors,” said Duffy. “As the school’s largest area of study, we will continue to offer the best possible strategic communications curriculum.”
The advertising department offers an integrated communications curriculum that teaches the entire spectrum of how modern global corporations, international advertising/public relations agencies, non-profit organizations and others do business. The curriculum is available to graduate students, undergraduates and through the school’s online master’s program.
