Missouri journalism faculty, graduate students and alumni to present 70 papers at AEJMC 2020 virtual conference

AEJMC 103rd Annual (Virtual) Conference

Columbia, Mo. (July 30, 2020) — Missouri School of Journalism faculty, students and alumni will present 70 peer-reviewed research papers at the virtual Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication conference Aug. 6-9.

More than 2,000 journalism and mass communication scholars are expected to participate in the fully-virtual 2020 AEJMC annual conference.

Among the top awards:

  • 2020 Hillier Krieghbaum Under 40 Award awarded to Edson C. Tandoc Jr., PhD ’13, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Janet Yang, University at Buffalo-The State University of New York.
  • Best Practices Competition Winners include an Honorable Mention to Teri Finneman, PhD ’15, University of Kansas for “A Diversity Analysis of Student Media.”
  • 2020 Emerging Scholar Recipients awarded to Russell Clayton, PhD ’15, Florida State for “Examining E-Cigarette Users’ Psychological, Affective, Attitudinal, and Behavioral Responses to Freedom-Threatening Anti-Vaping Public Service Announcements.”
  • 2020 Senior Scholar Recipients awarded to Amanda Hinnant, Ryan J. Thomas and Yong Volz, Missouri School of Journalism for “Discourses of Journalism Database.”

In addition, more than 90 Missouri journalism scholars will serve as moderators, discussants, panelists and workshop leaders during the four-day conference.

Founded in 1912 in Chicago, AEJMC is an international nonprofit organization composed of more than 3,700 faculty, students and administrators at journalism and mass communication schools from more than 50 different countries. AEJMC is dedicated to providing the means necessary to journalism and mass communication educators and students to foster generations of practitioners and educators dedicated to better professional practices and a more informed public.
